Netflix Now: Stupid Mayan Apocalypse Edition

Listen, the world isn’t going to end. We’re going to be okay. People put too much faith in ancient hunky firemen calendars. But if you believe in the Mayan doomsday stuff, give me your money right now because Nostradamus said so and I could use it… Of course, if this “end of the world” stuff is true, I suppose I should use this space to express my true feelings to those closest to me and make heartfelt disclosures to the people I secretly care about most. But no. Instead I’ll do that in a dignified manner more becoming of the end of the world: drunk dials and belligerent shouting into the sky.

To occupy your time before the grand event this Friday, you can always turn to Netflix Instant. New stuff this week includes Julie Delpy’s 2 Days in New York, Mike Birbiglia’s Sleepwalk with Me, Stacy Peralta’s skateboarding doc Bones Brigade, and Julia Loktev’s The Loneliest Planet. There’s also Adventures in Plymptoons, which is a doc on the always cool animator Bill Plympton, and The 50 Greatest Finishing Moves in WWE History. Obviously I wrastle in the independent circuit (hence the luchador mask), but they should really include my seasonal finishing move, “Feliz Navidad.” It’s a running reverse-bulldog, and I make my opponent drink egg nog the entire time. Think yuletide waterboarding and a bonus concussion.

There’s a lot of Christmas and a lot of Charlie Brown added to Watch Instantly, which you won’t finish in time for the end of the world. A few notable Warner Animation toons were added as well: All-Star Superman, Batman: Year One, Justice League: Doom, and Superman vs. the Elite. All-Star Superman was just all right (nowhere near as good as the Grant Morrison/Frank Quitely comic), but I’m most looking forward to vs. the Elite since I dug the comic it’s based on — Action Comics #775, “What’s So Funny About Truth, Justice & the American Way?”
