That first trailer for Cars 3 was surprisingly somber. It teased tough times ahead for Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson). I sensed a troubling fall from grace, and maybe even a death. Okay, maybe not a death. But it was pretty darn bleak and also really effective.
This new trailer for Cars 3 offers a little peak at the story of the latest Pixar sequel. Looks like some hungry, young talent is looking to make their mark against an older generation of cars. Give it a look.
It looks like Cars 3 is pulling a Rocky III here. The champ gets soft and complacent. A new guy who’s faster and stronger rises in the ranks. The new guy humbles the champ. Our hero, humiliated, goes back to square one to rebuild a better foundation for their skills.
I suppose it makes sense for the Cars series. The first film was essentially a riff on Doc Hollywood. The second film was… okay, I didn’t watch Cars 2. It was probably a pseudo-remake of Die Hard 2 or something. And here we are in the Rocky III entry of the franchise.
What do you think of this trailer? Ka-chow? Let us know in the comments.
