New details on Judd Apatow’s latest offers familiar faces

In casting news surprising precisely nobody, Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd have been confirmed to appear in Judd Apatow’s next, presently untitled film. The surprise is that the two will be reprising their roles from Knocked Up, married couple Pete and Debbie.  In an interview with Judd Apatow, HitFix discovered that the film will be neither prequel nor sequel to the 2007 comedy classic. He had this to say: “It is just a story from Pete and Debbie’s current life. People really responded to their characters and problems.  I felt like there was a lot of ground I could explore with them.”

This comes a bit out of left field, but on closer examination, it makes a lot of sense. Remember how around forty to 3,000 minutes of Funny People was devoted to Judd Apatow telling us, in no uncertain terms, “My kids and wife are amazing, and I will cut you if you think otherwise.” Making an entire movie around this couple, whose kids were played by Apatow’s real life kids, as in Funny People, we may be in for two hours-worth of the tedious half of Funny People.
