New details on X-Men: Apocalypse from Brian Singer

In the world of the comic book movie it’s become a game of “on to the next one.” We’re not even done with X-Men: Days of Future Past as it doesn’t come out for another month, and here we are talking about X-Men: Apocalypse. Of course Age of Apocalypse is one of the X-Men’s most famous story arcs so it’s easy to see why folks are excited and it could actually pertain to Days of Future Past as it appears that the film’s time travel could alter the X-Men film universe into one that’s closer to Age of Apocolypse‘s (if you don’t know, it took place in an alternate universe).

Co-producer/co-writer Simon Kinberg told EW that the film “won’t necessarily create an alternate universe, but there may be some swapping things that I’m playing with,” leading speculators to ponder if we’ll end up with a different world by the end of Future Past. Director Brian Singer also added that while the films won’t directly lead into each other Future Past will have an impact on Apocolypse adding, “what we’ll discover in Apocalypse is that events in this movie made that happen. Apocalypse deals with ancient mutancy. What would humans have thought mutants were? What would mutants think humans were? You’re dealing with gods and things like that. And what if one survived and what if that found its way into our world?”

Evidently we’ll also be seeing Nightcrawler and Gambit return, and if that means that all the time travel is wiping out their horrendous appearances in the previous X-Men films than I’m all for whatever retcon they want to do.
