Not so long ago, DNA Films released its first production still for the upcoming Judge Dredd adaptation, which will only be known as Dredd (2012). Karl Urban has replaced Stallone, who starred in the 1995 adaptation, as the judicial juggernaut, and he looks to be filling out the suit quite nicely. Urban was last seen in the action comedy RED and is earning a solid reputation as an action star through his roles in Lord of the Rings, The Bourne Supremecy, and Star Trek. Olivia Thirbly is a welcome addition to the project, playing Cassandra Anderson, a character from the original series not incorporated into the 1995 film.
Many fans of the original Judge Dredd comic series were disappointed by the Stallone adaptation, but with the knowledge that both the production company and screenwriter of 28 Days Later (Alex Garland) is behind the new production, I think we can set our hopes a little higher. Take a look at some of the new set pieces from Dredd in the gallery and let us know if you can see any of the gritty realism of the 28 Days series coming through. Are you excited about the new Dredd…
