New Lincoln TV spot aired during Presidential debate

For those of us who missed the Presidential debate last night, it looks like we also missed out on a new TV spot for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming epic Lincoln. It consists mostly of footage from the previously released trailer, but now it’s cut with some overly dramatic music that makes it feel like a thriller or some kind of action movie…which it obviously isn’t. Marketing people, amirite?

I’m still very much on the fence about Lincoln. On the one hand, Daniel Day Lewis is probably the greatest actor of our generation and watching him perform is always something else. On the other, I feel that Spielberg is incapable of making a focused, intimate film, which I feel this should be. He’s just been making huge, epic movies for so long that he doesn’t know how to do anything else. That’s not a sleight against him or anything. I love Spielberg movies. I just don’t want to see the potential of this film squandered because he had to make the biggest movie possible. Lincoln is just over a month away from release. Here’s hoping it rocks our faces off in all of the right ways.
