By Emily Blunt‘s charismatic turn in the otherwise disappointing Five Year Engagement is sure to propel her to superstardom, and an appearance in Rian Johnson’s anticipated thriller Looper will surely add to that buzz. The first trailer only gave the briefest glances at her character, but images released today put her vest-wearing, shotgun-wielding glory in the spotlight. Our gallery also features a moody-looking Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and the actor taking direction whilst doing a Brosnan-esque tie adjustment.
The movie opens on September 28th, a perfect window between the major blockbusters in the summer and end of the year. Fingers crossed it finds an audience, because the fantastic cast and time-travel action premise make it one of the most exciting original projects on this year’s movie calendar. After the disappointing The Brothers Bloom dampened excitement generated by his breakout schoolyard-noir Brick, Johnson briefly moved into television, directing Breaking Bad‘s much loved ‘Fly’ episode. Fingers crossed for a glorious return to the big screen: giving Emily Blunt a shotgun is a great place to start.
