Surprisingly the Mission Impossible movies haven’t completely worn out their welcome. Sure the quality and storylines have rocked up and down, and the franchise has turned into more of an action blockbuster than an action spy-thriller, but they’re charming enough to enjoy. Or maybe you disagree. Not really the point. The point is there is a fourth movie and Tom Cruise has revealed its name as Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol.
“One of the things I always wanted for the franchise was for it not to have a number afterwards,” Cruise said under the mistaken assumption that people cared. “I’ve never done sequels to films and I never thought of these films as sequels. Paramount has done a great job in coming up with a title, so it’s not going to be MI2, 3, 4: It’s going to be Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol.“
A few things pop into my mind here. First, if I read the title in a grammatically correct way I have to assume that the movie’s mission is the impposible ghost protocol. What is an impossible ghost protocol? Only poor grammar can tell. Second, Tom Cruise’s desires for making films are really shallow.
