New Releases, week of 01/03/2012: “Dead Gwyneth” edition

One of my favorite things in the world during my trip to Los Angeles (which I probably won’t ever shut up about) was all the billboards for Contagion featuring, prominently, Gwyneth Paltrow’s death mask of a face, as seen above. I do not care for her nine times out of ten, and the insistence to force her into multi-episode arcs on Glee did nothing to change my feelings for her. I had planned to see Contagion but the friend I was going to see it with blew me off for like two months the day we were supposed to see it. Sorry, Soderbergh. For those of you who are interested in the film, it’s out today.

Two of the other three films of note out this week are both reviewed by me! How exciting! Shark Night was pants-on-head, ass-backwards, up-is-down stupid, but I can not recommend it enough (although maybe you should just Redbox it) and while Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark had a lot of promise, it ultimately fell squarely into the mediocre range. Then there’s I Don’t Know How She Does It, and honestly, from reading his review, I don’t know how Matt got through it.

Another slim week for re-releases, just Serendipity and She’s All That on Blu-ray, but we all know that She’s All That is one of the best nineties teen movies, bar none. So, there’s that I guess.

As always, the full list of releases is below. Lemme know what you’re picking up this week and if there’s anything I didn’t mention that is worth checking out!
