By Well, the cosmos must have heard my birthday wish last week, because we have a killer selection of releases this week. The ludicrous Fast Five, ridiculous Scream 4 (never ever call it Scre4m), and d’awwwww-worthy African Cats are out as far as big-name releases go.
A crap-ton of awesome Blu-rays hit this week also, including both Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King for all you Disney fans, not one but two Tarantino classics with Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown, the classic Cinema Paradiso, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure AND The Pee-wee Herman Show on Broadway, and, icing on the cake, Peter Jackson’s Dead Alive in glorious, gory, ridiculous, sensational, appetite-spoiling HD (also on DVD!). How’s that for a slice of fried gold?
Also, worth noting, is the (sadly DVD-only) Friday the 13th: The Ultimate Collection pack. It is a bit of a misnomer since it’s missing Jason Goes to Hell, Jason X, Freddy Vs. Jason, and the reboot, but it’s still eight classic installments of the franchise in one collection. And just in time for Halloween, too!
