By Today is the day that Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln rolls onto DVD and Blu-ray. I think Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt are my favorite U.S. Presidents. Both were supreme badasses in different ways. Lincoln steered the country through its most difficult and divisive time, was an incredibly gifted writer, and routinely rode bears for recreation on his way to backyard wrestling matches (as pictured above). Teddy Roosevelt rode moose, delivered a 90-minute campaign speech after being shot in the chest, and beat 10 straight bigfoots in an arm wrestling tournament. (Only one of those TR facts is fake, and that is why TR is awesome.)
Anyways, enough history. Other high-profile new releases include The Comedy and Killing Them Softly. On the re-release side, Criterion is putting out Charlie Chaplain’s underrated dark comedy Monsieur Verdoux and Robert Bresson’s A Man Escaped. Two big franchises get re-releases as well: all three Jurassic Park films and all four Terminator movies. The Sandlot turns 20 and gets a special edition. Two of my favorite 80s horror films also have new editions out: From Beyond and Phantasm II. Rounding out lot of titles this week, there are tons of Blu-ray debuts and Blu-ray double-features.
