The big new release this week is Cloud Atlas, the ambitious but flawed adaptation of David Mitchell’s unadaptable novel directed by Lana & Andy Wachowski and Tom Tykwer. Also notable on the new release side, the very good music doc Beware of Mr. Baker, the non-3D version of Texas Chainsaw 3D, the Ron Perlman in drag movie Frankie Go Boom, and the “well, that came and went” Roman Coppola film A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III.
On the re-release side, the Criterion Collection is putting out 3:10 to Yuma and Jubal; Olive Films is putting out the Hal Hartley movies The Book of Life, The Girl from Monday, and The Unbelievable Truth; Flicker Alley has a really cool-looking box set of Russian filmmakers working for Albatros Productions in France during the 1920; and Warner Bros. is doing a Marx Brothers box that includes The Cocoanuts, Animal Crackers, Monkey Business, Horse Feathers, Duck Soup, and a bonus disc.
