New trailer for Antlers tells a grim modern fable

Wow. Antlers was a film I’d heard murmurs of but wasn’t quite sure how to pin down, but the new trailer above has more than captured my attention.

Directed by Scott Cooper (Hostiles, Out of the Furnace) and produced by Guillermo del Toro, David Goyer, and J Miles Dale, Antlers paints the picture of a small Oregon town plagued by a dark secret. A student’s (Jeremy T Thomas) bizarre and sinister home-life draws the attention of his teacher (Keri Russell) and her brother, the local sheriff (Jesse Plemons). Bad stuff ensues.

The script by Scott Cooper and C. Henry Chaisson is based off of the short story The Quiet Boy by Nick Antosca, who also worked on the screenplay.

Those interested might want to give Antosca’s short a read, as there’s still a wait to be had until Antlers hits theaters, with a vague 2020 release window set. The film is coming from Fox Searchlight, which is now a Disney label after their Sony acquisitions earlier this year.

So Disney’s got a spooky horror movie coming to a theater near you. Eventually.
