This year has felt somewhat empty for Whovians like myself. There hasn’t been any new Doctor Who. Fortunately, the show will return in 2020. To prepare us for this, BBC has released a new trailer teasing the coming season.
The trailer shows Jodie Whitaker returning as the thirteenth Doctor. It also appears that all three companions from last season are returning. I couldn’t be happier about that, because Graham is the best companion ever. The TARDIS looks the same as last season as well. What is new in the trailer however, is old. The return of Cybermen is shown. Last season was a concerted effort on behalf of the writers to not rely upon old villains and monsters, but to craft all new foes. It seems that they are not taking the same approach this season. I think that’s a good thing. The best Who manages to look both forward and back (which is appropriate for a show about time travel).
The trailer has lots of quick shots from disconnected scenes. It’s hard to know what is going on in most of them. We do get a glimpse of Paris in 1943. We see a being try to force its way into the TARDIS. We also hear the Doctor express that something is coming for her. It’s not much to go on, but I’m happy with it. I can’t wait for more adventures throughout time and space!
Doctor Who will return in 2020 on BBC.
