Coming out of absolutely nowhere comes my most anticipated project in some time. After Universal announced that Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe Retaliation/Step Up) is adapting the popular children’s cartoon about a kickass girl band and their sentient femputer Synergy, I’ve been waiting for any kind of image for it. After the teaser image of the cast failed to spark my interest completely, seeing them on stage is truly something else.
And we’ve also gotten the synopsis!
As a small-town girl catapults from underground video sensation to global superstar, she and her three sisters begin a one-in-a-million journey of discovering that some talents are too special to keep hidden. In Universal Pictures’ JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS, four aspiring musicians will take the world by storm when they see that the key to creating your own destiny lies in finding your own voice.
I’m still hoping their rivals, The Misfits show up. Jem and the Holograms is expected to come out this year, but there’s no release date set yet.
