It’s January and that means we’re getting not just the dredges of Hollywood, but also a glut of horror films that will flow into February. One of the more promising looking ones is Winchester, which stars Helen Mirren in another based-on-a-true-story horror film.
I like that they went period piece here instead of updating it. A creepy, old Victorian house is way better in the time period it actually existed in. Mirren in a horror film is also a bit of fun as the actress continues to basically do whatever the hell she wants in the latter part of her life. Otherwise I’m just hoping this is more tension than jump scare, which the trailer makes it appear to be.
