No Time To Die gets delayed a third time into October 2021

No Time To Die

Third time’s the charm, I suppose. In the most shocking news that has ever hit the human race, MGM has announced that the upcoming James Bond film No Time To Die has been delayed until October 8, 2021. In what is likely set to become the straw that broke the camel’s back for other studios, MGM is banking on customers being able to actually attend theaters later in the year, which does seem more likely.

While I would have just put the damn film on a streaming service at this point, there is some precedent for MGM to keep delaying things. With a budget of around $200 million and marketing that is likely double that, No Time To Die needs to make a substantial chunk of change if we ever hope to see another Bond in the future. Maybe the series should end here, but that’s a completely different debate.

Warner Bros. and Disney won’t have any reason to delay films (what with their streaming services), but the rest of the industry is likely to take note and hold steady. I don’t think that’s a bad idea, mind you, but I wonder how much longer the theater industry can hold out without any substantial films.
