You probably don’t know who Ben Hibon is, but he’s a man to look out for. He directed what was my favorite part in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I: the gorgeous animated sequence where Xenophilius Lovegood (Rhys Ifans) explains what exactly the titular Hallows are. At any rate, Hibon’s next project isn’t a few gorgeous minutes of animation, but instead a live-action “fantasy action thriller” retelling of Peter Panknown simply as Pan.
The film, which was once meant for Guillermo del Toro to direct before he got involved with every movie ever, has Peter Pan, who’s probably just known as Pan, judging from the title, as “a villain hunted by a police captain named Hook.” I’m snoring over here, but if it’s a project Guillermo del Toro was once attached to, it must read better than that craptacular logline. The real questions are will Dustin Hoffman reprise the role of Captain Hook, which is all I’ve ever wanted from the man, and will it be as uncomfortably and hilariously racist as Disney’s Peter Pan?
