We finally have it. Here’s our trailer for the Fred Durst passion project once titled Moose. He and star John Travolta have decided to use a more generic title with The Fanatic, and I will give credit where credit is due.
The title definitely matches the movie.
This looks regular, straight-up bad. Not impressively awful, no sparks of midnight movie potential. It just looks like the kind of film you either turn off halfway through or wish you’d turned off halfway through. From the concept to the title to the shots of someone dressed up like Jason Voorhees to let us know that horror stuff will happen in the movie, there’s nothing new or of interest here.
Added to that is the griminess of making Travolta’s character someone with clear mental problems, which I have a feeling they’re not going to handle with much sympathy or grace. I felt gross thinking that I was supposed to vilify this guy over the super macho, aggressive action star he worships from the trailer alone.
This looks like a rough ride for all parties involved, but if those interested The Fanatic will hit theaters on August 30 and DVD/VOD on September 6, 2019.
