We’re about to take one last trip to Litchfield County. Netflix has announced that the final season of Orange is the New Black will premiere on July 26 on the streaming service. Rounding out the series after seven years, this series finale is sure to be emotional, heartbreaking, and full of sex scenes.
I wasn’t exactly big on season six of the show and have even felt that the last few years were lacking in quality. What started as a relatively simple premise ballooned into an ensemble cast of characters that brings up a lot of comparisons to The Simpsons with diversity. It was great that minorities were being given a spotlight on a massively popular series, but Orange consistently lost its way from what was supposed to be main character Piper Chapman’s story. It didn’t help that she became a total drag to be around, too, which made episodes focusing on her dull.
She’s no longer in prison, though, so maybe this final season will address some of my longstanding complaints. Only time will tell (of which we’ve got plenty…).
