Remember Paramount+? I’ll forgive you if you don’t. I vaguely remember it and I reported on the name change from CBS All Access a few months ago. I suppose the name was chosen to capitalize on the + craze that Disney started…and is now being adopted by even the god damned Discovery Channel. Anyway, if you’re actually interested in this service, you’ll be happy to know that it will begin its worldwide rollout on March 4, 2021, in both the US and Canada.
On launch, there will be two pricing tiers available. A $5.99/month tier gives you access to all content on the service, but with limited advertisements interrupting you. If you’d rather do away with that, a $9.99/month tier removes ads entirely. That’s similar to a plan Hulu has, though you can forgo that completely by getting the Disney+ bundle and I really hate how segmented entertainment has become.
As for what you can expect on the launch date, not only will the entire Mission Impossible film series be available (which is almost worth signing up for another service), but a prequel series based on The Godfather will be making its debut. You’ll also find access to shows from Comedy Central, BET, Nickelodeon, and MTV. Interestingly enough, the Indiana Jones film saga will be streaming on Paramount+, but not Disney+. I really don’t know how these rights are divvied up between services, but that’s something to keep in mind if you’re a fan of Harrison Ford.
It’s unclear when Paramount+ will come to other markets, but then even Canada isn’t getting the expanded library of content until later in 2021. Honestly, I’ll probably forget this is even a service until I get the itch for Mission Impossible and become sad.
