It’s a great day to be a X-Men fan. After Mathew Vaughn decided to leave X- Men: Days of Future Past and Bryan Singer took over, I was curious how the film was going to turn out. Bryan Singer jumping on seemed like a good thing, but I didn’t want to get my hopes up too high. Well, now they’re all the way up there.
On Twitter yesterday, Bryan Singer announced that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan will be reprising their roles of Professor Xavier and Magneto respectively:
Thrilled to announce @ianmckellen118 & @SirPatSteware joining the cast of #XMEN #DaysOfFuturePast#magneto #professorX More to come…
Interestingly enough, Singer also announced that Jenifer Lawrence, Michael Fassboner, James McAvoy, and Nicholas Hoult were also reprising their respective roles from First Class:
I’d like to officially welcome back James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, & Nicholas Hoult to #XMEN for #DaysOfFuturePast
What could these casting announcements mean for the sequel? Stewart and McKellan rarely associate themselves with terrible material, and this bodes well for the time travel heavy plot of the Days of Future Past arc of the comic (an apocalypse happens while Kitty Pryde jumps back and forth between both timelines. For the love of J-Lo, please no Kitty Pryde!). Involving the elder Xavier and Magneto will hopefully bring back some of the continuity that First Class totes decimated. Now all that’s left is to speculate how the two times will tie together. What do you all think? Think the first three films will be altered to fit the apocalyptic setting or just be changed into a completely new timeline? Are you so confused right now thinking about it? Tell me!
