Paul Thomas Anderson’s last movie was the outstanding There Will Be Blood in 2007, and after considerable delay, it looks like he’s finally getting moving again on his next project. It was rumoured that the film was held up due to its subject concerning a man returning from WWII to start a cult which bears a remarkable similarity to a certain other belief system prominent in Hollywood today. It was even suggested that the film’s star, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, was cast for his uncanny resemblance to L. Ron Hubbard.
Thankfully, everything’s moving along nicely now, with the news that the film has regained its old title, The Master, and added two cast members in the shape of The Pacific‘s Josh Close and True Blood‘s Fiona Dourif. No details on Dourif’s role, but according to Variety, Close will be playing a ‘leading disciple’ of the cult. The film will be out at some point in 2012 and will star Philip Seymour Hoffman in the lead role as Lancaster Dodd, Amy Adams as his wife Mary Sue, and Joaquin Phoenix, Laura Dern, Jesse Plemons and David Warshofsky in supporting parts.
