I’m calling it right now. The next big fad in the world (bacon is fading and this Twitter thing is sure to go) is going to be penguins. Everyone loves those guys and while they may have not made all that they could have out of their 15 minutes in the spot light when March of the Penguin landed I have confidence that they’re going to rise again. Evidently DreamWorks does too as they have greenlit a spin-off Madagascar film starring the admittedly humorous penguins from the film.
This may sound like the same mistake SNL sketches make when they get turned into films — a one trick pony stretched on for far too long — but it their short on the Madagascar DVD was solid and evidently they have a Nickelodeon TV shows. I’ve never seen the latter so I don’t actually know if the wacky band of tuxedo wearing birds could pull off a full length film, but strangers things have happened.
With Megamind writers Alan J. Schoolcraft and Brent Simons we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed that they can stretch a funny gag into a 90 minute movie.
