For a film called Pet Graveyard, this movie seems to have suspiciously little to do with a burial place for lost pets. It’s almost like the filmmakers might have added this title solely to sew confusion with a similarly titled movie coming out this April.
Maybe that’s just me being cynical, though (it’s not), and Pet Graveyard isn’t looking to spoil its whole story in a single trailer like Sematary did.
What the trailer does show, however, is more akin to Flatliners than anything else. It uses shoddy and obviously wrong science to follow a group of young adults as they temporarily suffocate at a graveyard (for pets?) in order to meet loved ones before being resurrected. The experiment is a success but comes with unintended consequences when the group is followed by a sinister entity.
It’s a hairless cat. A well-groomed, good looking hairless cat. It certainly doesn’t look like it came out of a grave. It doesn’t even have gnarled ears or a ghastly fog to give the impression of a demonic force. Its eyes just glow red sometimes. A vet could probably fix that.
We’ll see if there’s more in store for us, though, when Pet Graveyard releases on DVD and VOD on April 2, 2019.
