The Coronavirus is having a major impact on upcoming film releases. First No Time To Die had its release pushed back and now the same has happened with Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway. Sony chose to move the film’s release to August instead of next month. James Corden reprises his role as the adventurous rabbit.
The new date is set for August 7, at least in the U.K and Europe where it was supposed to hit theaters on March 27. That is quite the push back for a film that stars a rabbit and well with Easter coming up it made sense for it to come out right around that time. This could very well affect its numbers with it now having a summer release. As it has been widely reported, in both China and Italy where the Coronavirus has had the largest impact, they are now in total lockdown meaning no public gatherings.
Another main reason for the long delay according to Variety is concerns over people pirating Trolls World Tour. To be completely honest I was more upset with No Time To Die being pushed back than this film. It is a shame that even entertainment isn’t safe from the effects of the virus at the moment. Hopefully, way before the summer, things resume to normal and moviegoers can feel safe going out in public again, especially in countries that have been largely affected.
