By We’re finally getting official announcements on casting for the upcoming Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire after the whole director drama settled. Philip Seymour Hoffman has signed on to play Plutarch Heavensbee, the Head Gamemaker of The Hunger Games. For those that have read the novels that’s a smaller role in this film that turns into a really big one in the third one.
As for a casting choice it’s hard to complain because I’m pretty sure Hoffman can handle any role ever. He’s just that good. I didn’t personally see Plutarch as quite as shifty or paunchy as Hoffman can be, but he can definitely pull off the character, especially in the third book where things get more complex.
I really just want to see Hoffman with some crazy facial hair, really. I’m guessing he’ll be clean shaven for the part, but the last Gamemaker had a crazy beard so he could too, right?
