Riding high on the recent success of The Master, and currently filming the soon to be successful Catching Fire adaptation, it looks like Phillip Seymour Hoffman is ready to try his hand at directing again. That’s right, I said again because he has apparently already directed a film, Jack Goes Boating, of which I have never seen nor heard of. From what I’ve just read, he seems to have room for improvement as a director, and what better vehicle than a ghost story situated in the 1930’s?
Titled Ezekial Moss, the film’s screenplay was on 2011’s Black List — the list of the most popular unproduced scripts — and is about “a young, imaginative boy living in a small town who befriends a mysterious drifter who may have the ability to communicate with the dead.” That’s a pretty tried and true formula for a movie, but I’m sure Hoffman will be able to spice things up a bit. There’s no confirmation yet as to whether or not Hoffman will be performing in the film, but if so, that’s at least one less thing to worry about. One can only hope that he can evoke his tremendous talent for being in front of the camera and transpose it to being behind the lens.
