Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is still four months away, but Disney are already prepping the fifth film in the lucrative series by signing up Terry Rossio to scribe. Rossio, assisted by writing partner Ted Elliott, has been the screenwriter for every Pirates film so far and although Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End were not welcomed with quite as much acclaim as the original, the studio are obviously happy enough with how On Stranger Tides is looking to put him in charge of devising a fifth adventure for everyone’s favourite wobbly pirate captain.
What’s more surprising is that while the film has its writer in place, Johnny Depp has yet to sign on the dotted line. Given how unfathomable it is that a Pirates film could happen without Cap’n Jack Sparrow manning the helm, it’s likely that Depp has given Disney some sort of indication that he’d be interested in taking up the role again. With On Stranger Tides rumoured to be the first part in a brand new trilogy, it’ll be interesting to see, come the film’s release on May 20th, whether any seeds are sown for future entries in the series.
