Rejoice for yet another Pirates film is on the way and Disney can continue to count its large piles of Johnny Depp flavored money (tastes like chicken). The fourth film hasn’t even hit theaters yet, but when you’re on a roll you shouldn’t slow down and thus the fifth film’s script is already done and ready to set sail on the seven seas.
THR reported that the co-writer of the original films, Terry Rossio, turned in his screenplay over the weekend. This will be the first time the writer is tackling the franchise without Ted Elliot, which is already disappointing for the myriad of reasons Tom pointed out for us in our Summer Movie Preview. Of course this is far from the final screenplay, I’m sure, but with Bruckheimer still wishing to roll in large piles of money and Disney already courting Rob Marshall to direct the fifth film is pretty close to a sure thing.
But will the Deppian flavor return? It all depends on the script, Depp says. He hasn’t read the new screenplay yet, but said, “It boils down to story, script and filmmaker… It’s not something where I would say, ‘Let’s shoot it next month to get it out by Christmas 2012.’ We should hold off for a bit. They should be special, just like they are special to me.”
