Apparently, there’s a Goosebumps movie coming out soon– You know, those books they always sold at your school book fair that were equal parts cheesy, weird, and occasionally horrifying? Columbia Pictures released the poster for the film today along with a brief synopsis as a tease for more future announcements to come (a trailer, perhaps?).
The movie isn’t an adaptation of any of the specific books, per se, but rather is about a boy named Zach who moves to a new town only to become smitten with a local girl. Come to find out, the girl is actually the daughter of writer R.L. Stine, played by Jack Black. Yes, you read that right. Turns out Stine’s books are based on real monsters which so nobly protects from the world by trapping them within his books. That is until Zach makes some trouble and accidentally releases the monsters into the world and… you can probably see where this is going.
Admittedly, this is a pretty cool premise for a movie and the released poster actually looks pretty exciting. It looks like the ultimate nostalgia trip for millennial fans of the book featuring some of the most iconic baddies from the book including that evil ventriloquist’s dummy. Plus, if they play up the creepy camp factor much like the classic Goosebumps TV show, this could very well end up becoming a new modern Halloween classic. I’m very interested to see what this actually looks like in a full trailer.
