Prepare for a transfusion: The Mortal Kombat trailer is here

0

The latest, hotly-anticipated, Mortal Kombat adaptation now has its first trailer, bringing no shortage of blood and brutality from its ikonic kast of kharacters. Gotta go for that “hard-K.”

It’s a tale as old as 1992, with the hardest of hardcore martial artists and special forces fighters converging to engage in a brutal, no-holds-barred tournament for supremacy, orchestrated by the mysterious Outworld forces. Featuring no shortage of familiar (masked) faces, the likes of Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada), Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim), Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee), Raiden (Tadanobu Asano), and more make an appearance, in what is truly looking like a bloody, gutsy good time, and a faithful adaptation of one of the most recognizable and enduring video game franchises around.

The new trailer, appropriately, is an unrestricted “red-band” trailer (as if a Mortal Kombat film could have anything but a red-band trailer). Director Simon McQuoid’s film was affected and staggered by pandemic conditions during its release, originally planning to hold off “until theaters re-open.” With a nationwide return to cinemas looking far away still, Mortal Kombat will be releasing to HBO Max, per Warner Bros.’ plans to premiere their 2021 slate of films to the streaming service, as well as theaters where available.

What that means for eager brawlers is that Mortal Kombat will be available to stream via HBO Max for a month, beginning April 16, 2021. Honestly? I’m so there.
