Prepare for the mindf**k: WB nets new Kaufman/Jonze pic

When the writer/director team behind Adaptation and Being John Malkovich have a new movie on the horizon, you’d damn well better be paying attention. While the newest project from Spike Jonze and Charlie Kaufman, a yet-untitled political satire, has been lesser-known knowledge for a while, this is the first news we’ve heard on it since December. The film has just been picked up by Warner Brothers, and professional bizarre dude Joaquin Phoenix is now attached to star. Phoenix, you’ll remember, recently “quit” acting in favor of a music career, which became a quasi-hoax/performance piece for Casey Affleck’s film I’m Still Here.

I’m SO jazzed for this. It’s been far too long since Adaptation, and Charlie Kaufman hasn’t given us a solid film since Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Yeah, he did Synechdoche, New York, but that was only ok. Eternal Sunshine is basically a masterpiece. To boot, we’ve got one of the most talented male actors working today in the film, so there’s a lot to be excited about. So here’s hoping we see more on this film soon, as it’s just jumped to the top of my to-do list.
