As if the Fast and Furious series couldn’t get any more jammed packed with action movie awesome, Vin Diesel today announced that John Cena would be joining the cast for the next installment of a movie series that has become the pinnacle of ridiculous action. The news came in the form of a video from Diesel as shooting starts on the ninth, and reportedly penultimate film, in the main series. The tenth film is not, of course, the end of the franchise as Hobbs and Shaw looks to spin-off into its own thing this summer.
In fact, Cena is probably being brought in to replace Dwayne Johnson in some capacity. I’m a little upset it isn’t Bautista as he’s my preferred not-The-Rock-wrestler-turned-actor, but Cena is no slouch with great turns in both Blockers and Bumblebee. Not too clear on who Cena is playing as this is just a quick video, but with Diesel seeming to be in character for the video we’re going with Cena is too and that means something a bit comedic and in a suit. Whatever character he is playing, it’s pretty much guaranteed at some point he’ll do something insane in a car and possibly show off his biceps.
Can’t wait.
Fast and Furious 9 lands May 22, 2019.
