Lifetime’s A Recipe for Seduction may be the strangest thing in 2020

2020 has been a dumpster fire of a year on pretty much every level, but I wasn’t prepared for today’s announcement from Lifetime. In some bizarre bit of corporate synergy, the house of cheesy made-for-TV romantic comedies will be airing the KFC sponsored A Recipe for Seduction next week for all to see. Starring Saved by the Bell and E’s Mario Lopez as Colonel Sanders, I have to believe this film was made as a dare by some executive to hit as many memes as possible in the span of two hours.

I honestly can’t get over the trailer. Everything is played with tongue so firmly in cheek that I’m afraid someone is going to choke on their own blood. There’s the attraction, the meddling mother, some type of murder plot, the works. This is comedy gold and I can’t believe I actually want to watch something on Lifetime.

Some other websites are reacting as if this is meant to be serious when I’m pretty sure that’s not the case. Last September, a visual novel lovingly titled I Love You, Colonel Sanders! A Finger Lickin’ Good Dating Simulator was released as a free game that gave players the chance to date the Colonel. A Recipe for Seduction might just be a playful homage to the Colonel’s sexual prowess.

Whatever the reason for this film’s existence, I’m happy it’s happening. We could all use some kind of cheese to take the edge off 2020…maybe with a side of biscuits.
