First thing’s first, and this is entirely superfical of me. I hate the way this movie is titled. VHS would be a perfectly fine title, spelled just like that. V/H/S just seems unnecessarily convoluted, to the point where I’m wondering if the slashes are court-appointed, as if the people behind the film couldn’t actually get the rights to use the official VHS acronym. I suppose I’m just going to have to deal.
Regardless of how you spell it V/H/S looks about ready to be one of the better horror movies of the year. Allistair liked it so much at Sundance that he gave it an Editor’s Choice award, so that’s definitely saying something. I’m always going to be a bit skeptical coming into found footage movies, since for every Chronicle there’s four or five Apollo 18s. I know there’s a lot of talent involved here, but I’m still very hesitant to really trust what is, on the surface, yet another found footage movie with a twist.
