Legendary make-up and prosthetic artist Rick Baker is to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, recognising his iconic body of work over a career spanning more than forty years. While make-up artists are rarely recognised for their work in the same way as actors or directors, Baker’s exquisite touch at creature creation has defined many of his most famous movies, including An American Werewolf In London, Star Wars, Harry And The Hendersons, The Frighteners, the Men In Black series and Hellboy. Even his work on critical bombs like Eddie Murphy’s The Nutty Professor, Jim Carrey’s The Grinch Who Stole Christmas or Tim Burton’s Planet Of The Apes remake was often acclaimed.
Baker has both won and been nominated for Makeup Oscars, more than any other man in filmmaking history. During his Walk Of Fame ceremony, he will officially be inducted into the Guinness Book Of World Records for his achievements. The man’s an icon for horror aficionados and his facial hair is pretty spectacular too, so this recognition on the world’s most famous boulevard is long overdue.
