Carrie Fisher has passed away after suffering from a heart attack last week. She was 60 years old. Her daughter, actress Billie Lourd, confirmed the sad news in a statement to People Magazine.
“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” the statement read. Lourd added, “She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
Carrie Fisher was the daughter of Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher. She was Princess Leia in Star Wars, of course, and had a strong career in Hollywood for decades, but she was much more than that. She was a feminist icon, an author, a person who survived depression and addiction, and just a fine presence to have in the world. The outpouring of love and support for Fisher over the weekend from friends and fans is telling–she was loved, and she will be missed, and it hurts so much to write this.
Flixist sends its condolences to Carrie Fisher’s family and loved ones.
