From director Richard Bates Jr. (the super-fun Excision), we have a trailer that mixes menace, mirth, and some weird visuals in a way that very much resonates with me. You give me an angry old man standing in a room of (probably) hallucinated screaming babies all dressed like hipster lumberjacks, and you have my attention.
Tone-Deaf sees a young woman recently fired and taking a vacation in the countryside where she rents the house of a widower who struggles to hide his psychotic impulses. It looks like a pretty usual horror setup amped up to eleven, complete with a monster and a modern-art take on strangulation. Amanda Crew delivers her one-liners well, and Robert Patrick has a sort of casual, homespun menace that I’m all for.
Tone-Deaf is coming soon.
