By Robert Redford is in talks to possibly join the cast of Marvel’s upcoming Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Despite looking as gnarled as a tree root, Redford has kept busy these last several years directing and starring in his own features, not to mention maintaining his duties as the current head honcho of the Sundance Film Festival. Why the sudden interest in huge, blockbuster superhero movies? Who the hell knows! The man’s a living Hollywood legend, so he can pretty much do whatever he pleases.
If he does join the film, rumor is he would play a senior S.H.I.E.L.D. operative, not unlike Sam Jackson’s Nick Fury. There is also a healthy possibility that he could cameo in other Marvel features down the line, such as The Avengers 2.
Only time will tell if Redford decides he wants to be a part of the gargantuan beast that is Marvel’s film universe. We’ll know for sure come April 4, 2014, when Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits theaters.
