Star Wars casting rumors are about as rampant as a bad case of the tribbles (SCI-IF UNIVERSE CROSS REFERENCE), but this one is both too good and too random to pass up. A The Times reporter walked into a interview with J.J. Abrams about his upcoming book and accidentally ran into Chiwetel Ejiofor in Abrams’ office. What’s that mean? Well, the if we’re going to go totally crazy it means that Ejiofor will be in Star Wars Episode VI!
It’s not actually that crazy. The actor has been rumored, he’s soooo hot right now coming off of 12 Years a Slave and Abrams had this cheeky comment to say about him when the reporter asked if he was there for Star Wars: He looks at me, dead-eyed. “I can’t discuss casting,” he says. “But he’s a very talented gentleman.” Of course, I wouldn’t put it past Abrams to have set the whole thing up as a bit of misdirection.
The clip above also features Ejiofor being as ambiguous about the whole thing as well. As with all rumors involving Abrams and Star Wars, nothing is confirmed until you’re sitting in the theater and see whatever the rumor is on the screen. Even then he may still be misdirecting you.
