Rumor: Colin Firth to star in Park Chan-wook’s Stoker

According to the UK’s Daily Mail, recent award grubber Colin Firth might be joining the likes of Nicole Kidman and Mia Wasikowska on Park Chan-wook’s mysterious American debut Stoker. Little is known about the film, but UK’s Daily Mail suggests that it’s about a mother-daughter family who’s visited by a mysterious uncle after the father dies. The twist? The uncle is a VAMPIRE (dun dun dunnnnn). I hear your collective sighs already, but hear me out.

I, just like you, am sick and tired of the abundance of vampires in today’s cinema. However, right at the height of Twilight mania, Park Chan-wook came out with Thirst, a visceral yet gorgeous take on the vampire film. For those unfamiliar with Park Chan-wook, he’s basically the greatest thing to come out of Korea, heralding such great films such as Lady Vengence and Oldboy. If you care to familiarize yourself with the Korean auteur, most all of his works is available on Netflix Instant.

So there, a short convincing argument for a new vampire flick. Now for the unwelcome surprise. The surprise is not that Park Chan-Wook is once again diving into the world of vampires, but rather that Stoker was penned by Wentworth Miller. Yea, the same Wentworth Miller of Prison Break fame. It’s a mad world and all, we’ll just have to wait and see.
