Last week, reports surfaced that Megan Fox was lobbying for the lead role in the newest version of Stephen King’s horror novel classic Carrie. Thankfully, there is a beacon of hope in the form of young Hailee Steinfeld. The folks over at CinemaBlend are reporting that Ms. Steinfeld is the top choice to step into the role of Carrie‘s title character in an adaptation that is expected to stay truer to the book than Brian De Palma’s 1976 film of the same name. Steinfeld was extraordinary as Mattie Ross in the Cohen Brothers’ True Grit, coming away with an Oscar nomination at the age of 14.
I’m not really sure how I feel about this rumor. On the one hand, casting Hailee Steinfeld is a massive improvement over the (admittedly far-fetched) Megan Fox rumor. On the other, I’d much rather see Steinfeld do more with her talents than a horror movie remake. Still, I have complete confidence that she can do amazing things with the character of Carrie White — she’s certainly more of a teenager than the 25 year-old Megan Fox — and the movie will automatically be more watchable with her in it. That is, assuming this rumor turns out to be true.
