Anne Hathaway became a household name when she first brought the character of Mia Thermopolis to life. The Princess Diaries films, based on the books by Meg Cabot, won the hearts of many. We thought things were wrapped up back in Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement but it seems that Mia’s story is not done yet. The Illuminerdi is reporting that production company Martin Chase Productions is already hard at work on the third installment, set to debut sometime on Disney+.
Another interesting tidbit that is all just really speculation at this point is that the plot will focus on a brand new character only seen in the books. Cabot wrote a spin-off of the main series titled, From the Notebooks of a Middle School Princess. That character to be introduced in the yet unrevealed film will be Princess Mia’s half- sister Olivia. This character much like Mia finds out she is also royalty and comes to live in the Royal Palace with Mia and family in Genovia. Hathaway and Andrews have said in the past they would 100% be on board for another Diaries film as long as it’s done right. Whether it will be a royal bomb or a royal hit remains to be seen. This is the most promising news we have heard in a while about the sequel, so hopefully they don’t destroy this beloved franchise.
