Koji Hoshino, president of the legendary Studio Ghibli, recently told those at the Rome International Film Festival that Ghibli would be announcing a new animation project on December 15th. It wasn’t confirmed if Hayao Miyazaki (Ponyo, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke) would be directing the new project or not, but we haven’t forgotten that Miyazaki mentioned in a past magazine interview that he wanted to do a Porco Rosso sequel, tentatively called Porco Rosso: The Last Sortie.
Studio Ghibli is always plagued by small box office results in America due to a very limited release in theaters, but not a single Miyazaki movie has gone by without captivating a large chunk of people both here and overseas. As someone who rewatches Princess Mononoke about twice a year, I’m always willing to watch anything this studio creates, even if it occasionally disappoints with movies like Howl’s Moving Castle. Any guesses on what movie it might be?
