Yea, you read that right. The rumor going around is that Zac Effron is in talks to star in Albert Hughe’s adaptation of popular manga/anime Akira. Though /Film sources say that he is both in talks and very far away from any kind of deal, that is enough to send this writer into a panic.
Last we heard of the Akira project, Leonardo Dicaprio’s production company Appian Way secured the rights and got ½ of the Hughes Brothers to direct. The adaptation will take place in Neo Manhattan and it is set to be split into two movies (three volumes of the manga per movie).
As a man who has the Kaneda pill tattooed on his wrist, I feel like my arm just exploded much like the picture above. Though it is just rumor, I pray that this doesn’t go through. I’m sure I speak for the rest of the Flixist staff when I say “Tetsuo? More like TetsuNO!†(see what I did there?).
