It’s been a long time coming (as Dreamworks purchased the rights six years or so ago), but things have finally begun moving forward for a live action adaptation as Masamune Shirow’s Ghost in the Shell manga gets its director, Rupert Saunders (most recently known for the lackluster Snow White and the Huntsman), and a new script.
Although it could be another six years before Ghost in the Shell hits the big screen (as Saunders has quite a few projects in the pipeline already) choosing a director is a big step. I haven’t seen more than a few episodes of the Ghost in the Shell anime myself (all I remember are those cute spider robot things), but our friendly sister site Japanator seems to be enjoying its recent spin-off. Anyone hopeful for a live action version or should it just stay buried forever?
