Russell Crowe quizzically Tweeted yesterday “If you want a Master and Commander sequel I suggest you e-mail Tom Rothman at Fox and let him know your thoughts.” It feels odd that he’d push for this movie when Gladiator seemed so close to getting its Ridley Scott sequel for so long back in the day, but JoBlo makes the good point that Master and Commander was up for an impressive ten Oscar Awards the year it released. Perhaps Crowe has a soft spot in his heart for the film stemming from the fact that he’s no longer really an A-list actor these days.
Crowe’s plea was enough to warrant this response from Fox Movies on Twitter: “Getting a lot of tweets about Master & Commander sequel, I’ll look into it (I’d love one, too, but as you all know a LOT goes into it.)” Not too promising, but I suppose now fans run the small risk of a CGI-heavy Moby Dick competitor sequel that bastardizes the first film getting greenlit.
