By When Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat) was attached to play Freddie Mercury in the biopic of the singer, a lot of people exploded in happiness, considering Baron Cohen’s more than passing resemblance to the Queen crooner. A few months after the initial casting announcement, we have updated information by the band’s guitarist, Brian May.
May writes on Queen Online, “Work is now fully under way for the much-vaunted feature film on the life of Freddie. Peter Morgan [(Bond 23, Frost/Nixon)] has delivered a first draft of the movie, which everyone is very excited about, and Sacha Baron Cohen is chomping at the bit to get into the role, in a way which certainly would delight Freddie ! The whole team now working on preparing for a shoot later this year, and a release in the late Autumn of 2012.”
Are any of you excited about this film as I am? I’m interested in seeing if Baron Cohen has more range than playing the racial/social caricatures he’s famously known for.
