SAIFF Closing Night scheduled, proceeds to help Red Cross

Due to Hurricane Sandy, the final few days of the South Asian International Film Festival were put on hold. Now the final screening has been rescheduled, and there’s something really cool accompanying it. Fitting with the environmental message of the Closing Night Film, Valley of Saints, SAIFF has decided to do its part and do what it can to help with the hurricane victims. A series of events will be taking place this Saturday night (November 17th), running from 7:30 until at least 11:something with the film itself starting at 9:15. Tickets are $25, but 50% of all proceeds will be going to The Red Cross Disaster Relief.

That’s a seriously amazing thing to do. $25 really isn’t that much for a festival ticket these days, especially ones that include other events in the ticket price, so it’s not like they’re charging through the nose and then keeping the half they would have charged otherwise. This is just a legitimately good thing.

If you’re in the New York area, want to be a part of the disaster relief, and are too selfish to give just to give, this is the perfect opportunity to give and to get. Or if you just want to see the film, you get the extra benefit of charity beyond that. Isn’t that awesome? Yeah it is.

SAIFF and stuff

The same weekend The 2012 South Asian Film Festival’s Closing Night Film was scheduled to occur, New York and New Jersey were struck by a natural disaster of unimaginable proportions.

We realize just how late of notice this is, but any support you might be able to give this film and benefit would mean the world to us.
